Upgrade Documentation
If you are installing The Blue Wave Mail Door for the first time, you can
skip this documentation and follow the installation instructions
contained within BWMAIL.DOC.
If you are upgrading from v1.00 of the door for QuickBBS, please read
this entire documentation file so that you are familiar with the changes
made.
INSTALLATION
------------
Installation is very simple. Inside of the enclosed file BWMAIL.ZIP,
there are two .EXE files to replace; BWMAIL.EXE and BWUTILS.EXE. Simply
copy these files over your old ones in the \BLUEWAVE directory.
Before putting The Blue Wave Mail Door v1.01 online, you should go into
the BWUTILS Directories editor, and define a new configurable path. It
is the 3rd one listed on the directories editor; "Where to place
ECHOMAIL/NETMAIL.BBS". Various mail processors want this file in various
places, so you can now tell the door where to put it.
WHAT'S FIXED
------------
1) The Keyword bundling command (K<area#>) didn't work properly. It
should now handle the bundling of keyworded messages properly.
2) The Filter bundling command (F<area#>) didn't work properly about 2%
of the time. This has been fixed.
3) For the v1.00 release of the QuickBBS door, I inadvertantly left out
a menu option in the BWUTILS->Security Manager. The door has a
configurable security level for determining which users have the
"Extended Msg Information" toggle available while at the door's
configuration menu.
You can now define the security level needed to access this menu
item, which controls the passing of ^A and SEEN-BY lines to the
reader.
4) The FOSSIL handling has been improved, and should now work on those
systems that have had trouble with ^s and ^q characters being passed
to the door input routines.
5) The "Local Usage, Keep Old Download Packets" option in BWUTILS now
works properly. The previous version nuked all download packets in
the local download directory, even though it wasn't supposed to.
6) The door was reversing the "AskAlias" and "Forced Alias" attributes
when passing them to the reader. The door now works in the following
way, which I have tested and verified to be the exact way that
QuickBBS handles message board alias flags:
1) Areas with "Alias" set to "NO" in QCONFIG will force the reader
to address messages from the user's LOGIN name.
2) Areas with "Alias" set to "YES" in QCONFIG will force the reader
to address messages with the name in Quick's 2nd name field.
3) Areas with "Alias" set to "ASK" in QCONFIG will allow the reader
to accept any name the user wants as the from field.
7) Problems with incorrect file sizes and times being displayed after
the mashing of a mail packet in local mode have been fixed. (It was
sometimes showing negative numbers and wierd transfer times).
8) The door should be writing ECHOMAIL.BBS and NETMAIL.BBS to spec
now, even when the first message in the base is NOT numbered as "1".
9) Swapping routines now actually use the swap directory defined instead
of the door's upload directory (oops). Improved Extended and
Expanded memory swapping to be much faster than before.
Thank you for trying The Blue Wave Offline Mail System!
